Choose a square image at 1200px
Choose the right image for your ad. Facebook recommends a square image at 1200px by 1200px. Use images that work with the copy of your ad and your brand. The image should be consistent with your brand and generate positive emotions when people see it. As ads run on both desktop and mobile, we recommend using a square image to optimize for both placements.
Choose copy that engages quickly or lists benefits
Just like with any type of copywriting - your ad copy needs to be engaging and concise. Here’s how to avoid boring your audience and ensure they take action.
Keep the rest of the copy simple.
Keep the rest of the copy short and simple. The headline and image should do most of the heavy lifting in an ad, as they’re what catch a viewer’s eye first.
Make sure your copy and imagery complement each other. If your headline explains something about your product or service, use an image that references it.
Don’t include more than one call-to-action (CTA). You don’t want to confuse people with too many options, so choose one CTA you want users to follow and use it throughout all of your ad copy.
Don’t use more than 90 characters in the body text without including a read more link. Most Facebook news feeds cut off this section after 90 characters, meaning people have to click on “read more” to see additional information.

Run broad targeting
The first thing you’ll want to do is run broad targeting. This is when you target a large group of people, such as all men who are 35-plus and in the United States. You’re going to build out your ad set with this targeting, then create lots of creatives (we’ll talk about that next). Once you have your ads up and running, check back tomorrow morning and see which ones performed best.
A simple process will help you create dynamic ads.
Start with a square image.
A good ad should stand out from the crowd and attract attention when it appears in someone’s newsfeed. The format requires an image, so using one that is eye catching is important. High-quality photos are proven to be more effective than graphics or text. Square images also take up more space in the newsfeed than other formats, which gives you an edge over ads with smaller pictures. However, if your images can’t be cropped into squares, try horizontal rectangles instead to get more out of your creative assets.

When creating your ad copy, keep it short and to the point; the average time spent looking at each feed item on a mobile device is only 1.7 seconds according to Facebook research. Whatever products or services you are promoting should be described clearly and quickly -- use bullet points if it helps! Including a price point as early as possible will not only make for clearer messaging but reduce abandonment during checkout because someone won’t feel like they are being tricked into spending more money than intended.
